MEGA mini in July2012!

Hey All!

I wanted to share what I've been doing with a good chunk of my July2012 kit: Summer Camp! Every summer we visit my family back home. (I'm originally from a used to be small town near Houston, TX) Every. Single. Time. we visit, I pack a huge back of crafty things to work on. Every. Single. Time. we visit, I don't use any of it.

THIS TIME, before we left for our adventure, I made a mini album ONLY using papers from the July2012 kit and some chipboard for ruggedness for my base. That along with embellishments from this month's kit and a few from past kits made my mini album super easy to piece together and ready for the road!

How about a few photos???

THE COVER: chipboard covered in a brown paint. a few misc buttons, ribbon i've been hording FOREVER and some simple washi tape create a front that is simple yet appealing (at least to me...) then a simple sticker from this month's sticker sheet along with my handwriting make for a very simple, but clear
 title.

 
                                                         On the 1st page there is a little flap for journaling, which i did before we took off. I'll admit i was totally freaked out about flying and being away from home/our stuff with a 5 month old. BABIES HAVE TOO MUCH STUFF!!

                            

Flip the page again and I've journaled straight onto the cardstock about our flight, which ended up being not so bad.YAY!        

Also, after I was done making the base of my album, i used my "scraps" and made myself a few perfectly coordinated, ready to use die cuts to pack along with the rest of my journaling supplies! This is one of the embellishments you see to the right! 

                                 

The next couple pages used a easy trick to make a simple pocket page for my mini album (tutorial incoming!) and a few left over pieces to embellish. Once I get home and our photos printed, this (and others through out the journal) will make a great place to stash the overflow. (I'm an eager photo-taker as well as photo-printer)

We were super lucky and caught the Titanic exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. It was awesome! I saved tickets and stashed the "boarding passed" we got upon entering the museum.

The album has many more pages and I have a bit more work to do in it, but premaking the base of my album certainly maked crafting on the go easier and more feasible. (newsflash, right?) But having a kit with most of the goodies already assembled and coordinated for me made my very little time very efficient!

As we get busier as a family and as individually, my time becomes so much more valuable to me. Having monthly kits from The Sampler makes my crafting not only possible, but FABULOUS!

So Very Good...

Happy Friday!

How was your week?

Mine has been a busy one so I'm really looking forward to the weekend.

Today I have a simple layout to share.

I cut my title using an Ali Edwards Designer Digital file that I converted and cut on my Silhouette Cameo. I cut it out on white cardstock and then embossed it with red embossing powder.

It's a fun technique!

This is 4th of July 2011 in Washington DC and wow was it ever a fireworks show!

I love fireworks so this was a highlight from our trip.

Very First Swing :)

inspired by >this sketch< by Diana Fisher of Design by Diana.  i really love her sketches - they fall in line so perfectly with my style & there's lots of room to improvise!!!

these photos are some of my favorites from a day this past spring on Kellan's very first visit to the park - a big day for firsts!

i put this together using this month's kit from The Sampler, "Summer Camp".  the colors from the kit really worked great with these pictures, and i was even able to include some flowers on a boy page.  i really love the "Summer Fresh" line from Simple Stories soooo much - i might have to order some more of it!!!

My sketch layout

I wanted to share my layout I created based on Holly's fabulous sketch!  I am a huge fan of sketches, and it makes it so easy to whip up a layout.  Here is what I came up with.

And They're Off

Hi everyone, Nancy here today to share with you a project I made using the Summer Camp kit from the Sampler.   Every month these kits just seem to get better and better.  So many goodies packed into each and every kit.

This year our cabana swim team hosted a cardboard boat regatta.  Each of the teams built a boat using nothing but duct tape and cardboard.  The boat had to fit at least one person who had to paddle across the pool and back.  Best time wins!   Here is my daughter and her friend were going for the gold!  They made it across the pool and back in 1:37.  The fasted boat of the day.

Look at the smiles....these papers and embellishments are just perfect for documenting summer fun like this. The colors and cute embellishments just scream fun!

 Of course, I left lots of room for journaling later.

Card Fun!

Just in case you missed the last blog post on here, I'd love to give a quick shout out to the July Challenges here on The Sampler! You can find all the info. here. What a fun way to get a creative boost and also have a chance to win some fun prizes!

Today I have a couple cards to share, I made both with pieces from the July kit.

This card is super simple.
Just piece together some stickers and papers and viola! you have a great card to send to a friend this summer!

Next, I have a very "July" looking card (red, white, blue) that I made with the border sticker from the sticker sheet included in the kit and then I stamped the buttons onto white cardstock and the gingham paper and cut them out. I added the twine, pearls and "hello" (not in the kit) to finish it up!

The great thing about these monthly kits is that you can use them for so many different things and also add bits and pieces from your stash to stashbust as well.

Celebrate!

The summer is all about birthdays in my family.  I made this tag to go on a gift card I got for my niece's 21st birthday.  I cut the celebrate flag using my cameo, and added some twine.  The rest of the goodies are from the kit.

The July kit is such a happy, summery kit.  If you haven't headed over to SBSRU to check it out, you should.

Hi everyone, Nancy here today to share a project with you that I made of my daughter's birthday party.  For her birthday we took a trip to the spa.  She and five girlfriends were treated to manicures and pedicures while sipping sparkling cider.  Yep....spoiled.  But, this was her birthday party so......

I love the colors in the July kit, Summer Camp.  The colors and the patterns are so fun and whimsical.  I love all the fun, country flowers.

 Lots and lots of pop dots were used here to give the stickers, die cuts, and fussy cut elements more dimension.

Don't you just love that look on her face.  I think she and her friends decided this was the best birthday party ever!

Friday: Celebrate Good Times Card

I'm back from a three week vacation roming through Toronto, Paris, Bruges, Brussells, Amsterdam and Prague. It was fabulous and I'm sure you will be seeing these places in my upcoming layouts!

It's been hard trying to find my creativity amongst the piles of laundry and such, but it's starting to return. I found the July kit to be just the thing I needed to jump back in!

Here is my card for today:

I cut the sun on the Silhouette from cardstock in the kit. I love all the little details included this month!

hi there!  Shaunna here.  a good friend of mine recently celebrated the 2nd Anniversary of her 29th Birthday and i took advantage of the opportunity to use the new July kit, "Summer Camp" to celebrate the occasion.

Silly Girls

Hi everyone, Nancy here today to share with you  a layout I made using the July Kit, Summer Camp, from the Sampler.  I love these fun photos of my daughter and her friend.  They are too cute together.  Their favorite game...."Teenager".  It consists of wearing high heels (often mine) and makeup; while carrying cell phones and jewelry in their purses.  lol  Amazing what children think getting older is all about.

I love the colors in this kit, and the sweet little motifs.  So fun and whimsical.  (sorry about the weird colors, I just got a light box to photograph my projects and am still trying to figure it out.)  There is still time to enter the sketch and card challenges this month, so be sure and check them out.

A July kit layout

Well, as soon as I got my hands on that amazing July kit, I couldn't wait to get scrapping!  Here is the first layout I created from it.

I loved the big piece from the Simple Stories patterned paper, and knew I wanted it to be the focus of the layout.  I also cut apart the chevron border and stitched it down.

This kit has so many fun bits and pieces in it, and I can't wait to create more.

trash to treasure project

hi everyone!  Shaunna here.  today i'm going to share a project with you that started out as something else entirely and ended with this lovely Thank You card:

i'm actually pretty impressed - and i managed to whip this together from odds and ends leftover from the original project i started with!  so i'm doubly impressed with myself this week!

my initial idea was to use the crab stamp set from Technique Tuesday that was included in June's kit to create an image inside a bubble, with the bubble being made out of recycled plastic packaging from stickers.... i guess it may be easier than i was trying to make it but for some reason i always ended up being pretty disappointed with the results.  i was trying to stamp the image onto a cardstock circle, cut out plastic to fit over, pour glitter in and then add glue around the edges of the circle to adhere the plastic to the cardstock and make a fun "bubble" effect to use on a card... it just never worked out the way i wanted it to.  glue smears, glitter messes, and disappointment in my stamping skills... and then in the midst of a frenzy the stamp set completely disappeared and i couldn't find it anywhere. :(

so, after taking a 24-hour break and clearing my mind, i went back in and looked over the aftermath, and decided to use the pieces (plus some other stuff from the June kit!) to make something entirely different instead of just scrapping it all and throwing it away like i usually do!  that was a big step for me, i tend to shy away from creating something or even cutting into paper if i'm not absolutely sure of the idea.  it was really refreshing to create something out of the mess i made!

Did you see the July kit??

Oh my gorgeousness!  I can not wait to dive into that kit and get creating, but I do have one more layout that I want to share using the June kit, which was probably my favorite kit to date.  I just loved everything in that kit, and created some of my favorite layouts ever using it.  This layout is one I've wanted to do for awhile.  Just one to capture my kids right now.
